  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 2 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (frozen)
  • 2/3 cup cold buttermilk
  • 1 large egg (separated)
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped cooked chicken

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir in chives and cheese.
  2. Grate frozen butter into the dry mixture and combine until crumbly.
  3. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk and egg yolk. Pour over the flour mixture along with the chopped chicken; mix until dough forms.
  4. Shape dough into an 8-inch disc on a floured surface; cut into wedges.
  5. Brush with egg wash made from reserved egg white and buttermilk.
  6. Chill for at least 15 minutes before baking on a parchment-lined sheet for 22-25 minutes until golden brown.
