  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned whole rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
  • homemade salted caramel or store-bought caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (149°C). Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix melted butter, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir in flour until combined. Press into the prepared pan and bake for about 15 minutes.
  3. Toss the sliced apples with flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a separate bowl.
  4. For the streusel topping, mix rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  5. Increase oven temperature to 350°F (177°C). Layer apple mixture over the crust and sprinkle with streusel topping. Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing. Drizzle with salted caramel before serving.
