  • 1 lb smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup long-grain white rice
  • 2 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup sweet and tangy BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika, optional
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Brown the sliced sausage for 2-3 minutes on each side; remove and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, toast rinsed rice for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and pepper.
  5. Add chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and soy sauce; mix well.
  6. Return the sausage to the skillet, nestling it into the rice mixture.
  7. Bring to a simmer, cover with a lid, reduce heat to low, and cook for 18-20 minutes until rice is tender.
  8. Remove from heat and let rest covered for an additional 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
