  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 2 cups thinly sliced or shredded chicken
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1.5 cups drained sauerkraut
  • 1 cup Thousand Island or Russian dressing
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for greasing)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the rye bread into cubes or slices and layer half in the bottom of the dish.
  3. Add half of the chicken, followed by half of the Swiss cheese, half of the sauerkraut, and half of the dressing. Repeat the layering with remaining ingredients.
  4. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20-25 minutes, then remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  5. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
