  • 8 slices rye bread
  • 2 cups thinly sliced or shredded chicken
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups drained sauerkraut
  • 1 cup Thousand Island dressing
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for greasing)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the rye bread into cubes or slices and arrange half in the bottom of the dish.
  3. Layer half of the chicken, followed by half of the Swiss cheese and sauerkraut. Spread half of the dressing over this layer.
  4. Repeat layering with the remaining ingredients.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20-25 minutes, then remove foil and bake an additional 10-15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  6. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
