  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (or orange extract)
  • 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons fresh orange zest
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Turbinado sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in vanilla extract.
  2. Gradually add flour while mixing on low speed until just combined.
  3. Fold in dark chocolate chips and orange zest using a rubber spatula.
  4. Divide dough into two logs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 2 hours.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush chilled dough with egg wash and coat in turbinado sugar.
  6. Slice dough into half-inch thick cookies and place on a lined baking sheet.
